Kinshou Yaroo Iwa Bates

Dan woke up a couple days before Memorial Day at about 5:30 in the morning with EXTREME lower abdominal pain. His first thought was it's a kidney stone, so we called his brother who is a resident expert on kidney stones only to find that with kidney stones the pain is in the kidneys. Not knowing what was causing this pain that continued to increase with time, I quickly got the girls up and got them in the car to take Dan to the emergency room. As we were driving the pain kept getting worse and he was becoming very nauseated, he didn't want me to drive too much quicker with the girls in the car so he asked me to drop him off at the ambulance station for them to take him in, so I did.

As I was following the ambulance in to town, which was driving normal, it immediately switched it's lights & sirens on and took off. Scared me because I knew something happened in the back of that ambulance but I had no idea what. Once I got to the hospital I had to wait a few minutes before they would let us back to see him.

They had given him pain meds so he was pretty out of it. I asked what had happened in the ambulance, they said he was going into Vtac which means his heart was stopping, they were getting ready to shock him. Now he really wasn't going into vtac despite what the heart monitor said, he was just in that much pain it was messing with his heart. So scary.Anyway. they took him in for a cat scan and discovered kidney stone, about 4mm in size. He was released shortly after that to go home and pass it, with lots of pain medicine of course. When we got home it took us a while to figure out a good dosing schedule for his meds, if he took all at one time it made him nauseated, if he waited till they wore off to take another he was nauseated from the pain. We finally figured out that 1 perkiest every 2 hours worked the best, we continued that the rest of the day and throughout the night, it was very exhausting! The next day, he was doing good till about noon, then started having bad cramps and started to bloat. He was so bloated that he couldn't eat or drink, which caused his urination to stop, so we ended up in the ER again on Friday night. We found out that he was basically constipated and once again he was sent home with more meds, this time to help him go. After being up all night due to pain from not being able to go (still) we called the ER again. They prescribed some more meds, it was crazy. Later that morning he was finally able to go, thank goodness! Once again he started feeling much better. By that after noon he was feeling so good that he decide to try a home remedy that his brother told him about. He had to drink a 2 liter of coke in 1 hour, once he finished that he had to drink 8oz of pureed asparagus followed by 1 gallon of distilled water for the next 6 hours. Supposedly the acid in the coke eats the stone, the asparagus dilates the ureters ant the water flushes it out. Well within an hour and a half of Dan starting this remedy he passed his stone, with no pain (thanks to all the pain meds). He immediately felt better.

He went to the urologist after the holiday and there are no more stones in his kidneys, again thank goodness and they are going to send his stone off for further evaluation as to what could have caused it. Dan isn't a soda drinker, has a coffee now and then, and doesn't drink milk, they are thinking that since his grandpa, mom & brother all have had hem that most likely it is hereditary...but we will keep you posted.

I again want to thank Dans mom for coming to the rescue. She went ahead and headed up while we were in the ER the first time, since we had no idea what was going on or how long he was going to be in the hospital. She was a HUGE help with Dan, Ashley & Allison. When I had to take Dan back to the ER she stayed home with both girls. Cyndy THANK YOU so MUCH, we love you and appreciate you so much!!!

THE BIRTH ANNOUNCMENT

After three long painful days of labor, weighing in at 1/4 oz and measuring 4mm Kinshou Yaroo Iwa Bates (Japanese name meaning lilttle bastard rock) was born at 7:10 pm in Chino Valley, AZ under heavy narcotics. If you have never had a kidney stone quickly find GOD and pray you never do!
